With the start of the school year just around the corner, no doubt you are eager to squeeze in an extra trip before summer takes its leave. Look no further than North Carolina’s Outer Banks, home to charming seaside villages, glorious sunrises and sunsets, a plethora of fun festivals, and exceptional accommodations at White Doe Inn. From figs and fishing to First Fridays and Arts At the Inn you will discover a wide assortment of late summer activities in the Outer Banks! For starters:
The Ocracoke Fig Festival, August 17 & 18, 2018 – Come enjoy the Outer Banks’ sweetest tradition in Community Square. Local vendors will provide figs in all forms: fresh, preserved, smoked, barbecued, and more. Learn about Ocracoke’s fig history and culture, try old-fashioned crafts and games, or purchase a local cookbook to try your own fig recipes at home. Lastly, you will not want to miss the final three: the Fig Cake Bake-Off (submit a cake or enjoy free samples), the Ocracoke Square Dance (grab your partner!), and finally, the Ocracoke Rockers (dance the night away)!
Alice Kelly Memorial Ladies Only Billfish Tournament, August 12, 2018 – Calling all women! Grab your gear and get ready to fish for a cure during this annual August weekend event at Pirate’s Cove Marina. Day one includes registration, live music, costume contests, boat decorating, and an evening cookout. Day two brings the fishing competition! After spending a day out on the water, participants will return at dusk for judging and awards.
First Fridays in Manteo, April thru December – The Town of Manteo’s enchanting waterfront downtown draws locals and visitors alike to this fun-filled street festival held the first Friday of each month from 6-8pm.
