The Cape Hatteras Anglers Club, founded in 1957 is dedicated to the conservation, preservation, and enjoyment of marine life. It is located in the village of Buxton on Hatteras Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. To stimulate tourism during the fall season, the club hosted a fishing tournament in 1958 and it has been going every year since. In fact, it now holds the Guinness World Book Record for the largest surf-fishing tournament in the world!
The Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament will be taking place November 5-8, 2014. There are 120 teams of six that are invited to participate in the tournament every year—this year is full and there is a long waiting list but if you love to fish you can get your name in for another year! We wanted to highlight this event as there are still some great activities going on and it is an opportunity to meet other anglers, judges, and equipment companies even if you can’t participate in the tournament. For those involved, there are seminars, open houses, raffles, great food, fishing sessions and of course a brag night.
If you aren’t one of the lucky few to be in the invitational, there is still a great chance for you to try your luck during the Bob Bernard Individual Tournament on Saturday, November 8, 2014. It is $10 for adults and free for youth up to 16 years. This is open to anyone who wishes to fish. Awards and trophies are given out and since this tournament is going on in conjunction with the invitational, you will have the privilege of attending all the events going on, which includes the tackle show, cocktail hour, brag night, and awards dinner.
This is a great event that brings in fishing enthusiasts from all over to the Outer Banks. While you are here you will find great shopping, fantastic restaurants, and a host of other outdoor activities to do. You will also find that the perfect place to stay is the White Doe Inn in Manteo, NC. Just a short scenic drive from the tournament, our bed and breakfast is on the shores of Shallowbag Bay and is a gorgeous, relaxing home away from home.
